23 miners arrested for invading Earl International Group Gold Ghana underground concession

The suspects were part of over 100 galamseyers who invaded the mine at midnight on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Private security guards of Earl International Group Gold Ghana Ltd, a large-scale mining company in Gbane, Talensi District in the Upper East region, have arrested 23 miners who infiltrated the company’s underground operations.

The suspects were part of over 100 galamseyers who invaded the mine at midnight on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. They gained access to Shaft 2, Level 2, through illegal mining pits. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

The company has faced persistent challenges with miners invading its underground concessions since it began deep mining operations. Despite regular efforts to secure its legally acquired concession, including sealing off illegal pits and engaging community leaders, these invasions remain a recurring problem.

This latest arrest adds to a series of similar incidents. On August 10, 2024, over 30 miners were apprehended by the company’s private security team and handed over to authorities. Additionally, a previous attack by miners on the company’s security guards left five guards injured during underground operations.

Mine Manager, Firibu Salia condemned the persistent invasions, noting their detrimental effects on the company’s operations and the dangers posed to both miners and the company’s workers.

“The recalcitrance and persistent invasion of our underground mining areas obstruct smooth operations and endanger lives. Support pillars and concrete slabs constructed to deter illegal miners are often blasted and destroyed by these intruders,” Mr. Salia explained.

He assured the public, regulators, and stakeholders of Earl International Group Gold Ghana Ltd’s commitment to addressing the issue through sustainable and legitimate means, emphasizing the importance of protecting both the company’s interests and the safety of all individuals involved.

The management of Earl International said they will continue to work closely with security agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders to combat the illegal mining menace, ensuring that its operations remain secure and sustainable.
