South Africa to Partner Ghana to Tackle Housing Issues
Ghana and South Africa are forging a partnership aimed at addressing the intricate issues surrounding housing, human settlements, and urban development in both nations.
This collaboration reaffirms the commitment of both countries to tackle the multifaceted challenges related to housing and human settlements.
It came to light when South Africa’s Minister for Human Settlements, Hon. Mmamoloko Kubayi today paid a courtesy call on Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister for Works and Housing.
The visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen ties and explore avenues for cooperation in the realms of housing delivery and the development of human settlements between the two nations.
Minister Kubayi’s visit follows productive discussions held between the two sector Ministers in Poland and South Africa, laying the groundwork for future collaborations, particularly in enhancing the institutional framework for housing delivery.
Minister Asenso-Boakye emphasized that the complexities surrounding housing delivery demand not only immediate attention but also innovative solutions rooted in mutual government commitments.
“Our joint efforts in pressing issues of slum upgrading, improvement of informal settlements and the lives of those who inhabit them can have profound impact on the well-being and living conditions of a significant portion of our populations,” he added.
Minister Kubayi expressed South Africa’s readiness to commit to this new partnership, which encompasses sharing experiences, knowledge, and best practices in their respective housing sectors, with a practical focus on implementing their shared goals.
“To us this partnership and commitments also include sharing of experiences, knowledge and best practices in the housing sectors of our countries and how we can practicalize the implementations of what we seek to commit”.
Minister Kubayi and her delegation are expected to pay a courtesy visit to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and engage in other activities, including a Business Session hosted by the Ghana Investments Promotion Centre (GIPC) for housing sector stakeholders from both countries.
