NPP Primaries: Otito Achuliwor gets nod on third attempt
The third-time runner scored 375 votes to lead the pack of five contenders in the fierce election. His close contender and MCE Joseph Adongo placed second, haven garnered 238 votes.
Abadallah Otito Achuliwor, the executive director of the Ghana Libya Arab Holding Company Limited (GLAHCO) and brother of late former Member of Parliament for Navrongo John Setuni Achuliwor, has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary.
The third-time runner scored 375 votes to lead the pack of five contenders in the fierce election. His close contender and MCE Joseph Adongo placed second, haven garnered 238 votes.
New entrant and the youngest contender, Raymond Kwojori Ayilu took home 49 votes, while Perry Atawora Adamba and Abasang Gregory earned 8 and 3 votes, respectively, in the peaceful internal election.
Out of a total of 691 delegates in the constituency, 676 turned out for the election. Out of 676 voters, 673 votes were declared valid by the Electoral Commission at the end of the process. Three votes were declared rejected.
Addressing the gathering after the declaration of results, Patrick Seidu, the national representative for the party on elections, thanked the aspirants, delegates and party faithful for the peaceful conduction of the election.
He urged the party to uphold the peace and harmony enjoyed throughout the campaign and election period, and foster unity to be able to take back the seat from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
For his part, Achuliwor who was almost moved to tears, thanked the delegates for giving him their approval. He said his win was the beginning of the defeat of the NDC as far as the parliamentary seat was concerned. He assured to unite the party faithful and work closely with the ranks to retrieve the seat from the NDC.
