Bawku has been in turmoil for more than two decades following a protracted chieftaincy conflict between two ethnic groups.
A number of people have been killed and others injured due to the conflict, with property running into millions of Ghana cedis destroyed.
In a speech, Dr Bawumia said “I appeal to Mamprusis and Kusasis embroiled in the Bawku conflict to let peace prevail so that they can live together as one people, for sustainable development to take place in the area.”
“It is indeed possible for Mamprusis and Kusasis in Bawku, who are fundamentally one people, due to inter-marriages and similarity in language, to live together in peace and harmony. I pledged my commitment to working together with all parties, towards achieving lasting peace for the good of the community and the people.” Bawumia wrote on Facebook.
Bawumia was accompanied by the Minister for Interior Ambrosse Dery, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Hajia Lariba Abudu, National Chairman of the NPP Stephen Ayesu Ntim, former government appointees and some regional executives.
