Ghana Navy intercepts canoe suspected to be transporting narcotics

The GAF said the suspected substance were intercepted on Saturday (16 December, 2023), following intelligence gathered during foot patrols the previous day, Friday (15 December, 2023).

The Ghana Armed Force (GAF) says a detachment of the Riverine Command of the Ghana Navy, stationed in Ada Foah, has intercepted a canoe in the Agorkpo General Area suspected to be transporting marijuana.

In a statement, the GAF said the suspected substance were intercepted on Saturday (16 December, 2023), following intelligence gathered during foot patrols the previous day, Friday (15 December, 2023).

The GAF said the detachment laid ambush at two locations during which three canoes were sighted. It said after a scuffle and hot pursuit by the ambush, two out of the three canoes managed to escape.

One canoe, the GAF stated, was apprehended after its occupants dived into the sea. The statement said 45 sacks of suspected marijuana, adding that the confiscated items have been conveyed to the Tema Naval Base for further investigation.
