Former Builsa North MP Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia has died
During her time on earth, Chigabatia was elected the NPP Regional Chairman, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Builsa North constituency, Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia has died, sources close to her family have confirmed.
The sources said the late former deputy Upper East Regional Minister passed away on Tuesday (January 9) while undergoing treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre where she was on admission for some time.
The news of her passing has left a vacuum in the hearts of many in the home region, where she was much loved for her humanity and kindness.
During her time on earth, Chigabatia was elected the NPP Regional Chairman, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
Chigabatia also served as Member of Parliament for the Builsa North constituency 2005 and 2009, using her position to champion women empowerment.
Biography
Agnes Chigabatia was born on 20 October 1956 at Chuchuliga in the Upper East Region of Ghana. She acquired her middle school education at Adda Middle School in Navrongo and Ayieta Middle School in Sandema. Agnes later had her secondary school education at St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School, Jirapa. She furthered her education at the Accra Polytechnic where she acquired an Advance Level in Catering Certificate.
Career
Chigabatia was a caterer by profession.
Politics
Agnes Chigabatia contested in the 2004 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party of which she won. She pulled a total vote 6,160 representing 33.70%. Within this same period, Agnes was also the Deputy Minister for the Upper East Region. Agnes lost her position as member of parliament during the 2008 election where she lost to Timothy Awotiirim Ataboadey.
