Social entrepreneur calls for collaboration to boost tourism in Upper East
According to him, growth in the sector can only be maximized if key stakeholders in the region team up to work on common goals.
Sabinus Chiravira, a tourism enthusiast and social entrepreneur, has urged concerted efforts to grow the tourism sector in the Upper East Region.
According to him, growth in the sector can only be maximized if key stakeholders in the region team up to work on common goals.
Another way the region can also boost its tourism potential, Chiravira noted, is to capitalise on its rich cultural heritage and natural attractions.
“We need to come together to showcase our unique cultural heritage and natural attractions to attract tourists”.
Speaking on the Monday December 23 edition of the Big Mike Breakfast Show, Chiravira strongly advocated the provision of proper infrastructure at tourism sites to drive up the tourists numbers and spur socio-economic development for the benefit of the people.
Chiravira also suggested deliberate investments in the establishment of local foods vending joints at tourist sites and handing out souvenirs to tourists who visit the region. He is optimistic that these among other measures would give tourists a better experience and translate to sustained visitations.
On challenges facing tourism in the region, Chiravira pointed out bad publicity as one of the major causes for the decline in interest by tourists. He said the international community has labeled the Northern part of the country as a high-risk area, which has affected the interest of tourists.
“Despite its potential, the Upper East Region faces challenges in developing its tourism industry. The region has been classified as a level-two risk area by the US Embassy, meaning that visitors are advised to exercise caution when traveling to the Region.”
“We have the opportunity to attract tourists from neighbouring countries and showcase our unique cultural heritage. With our rich cultural traditions and natural attractions, the Upper East Region has the potential to become a major tourist destination in Ghana.”
