Essence of Christmas is lost in modern day -Rev. Kwotuah
According to Rev Kwotuah, the original sense of Christmas is lost when much emphasis is placed on merry-making than the Christ factor, as we see in modern day.
The Dean of Students at the Assemblies of God Theological and Missions Seminary’s Northern campus in Kumbungu, Rev. Jonah Kwotuah has said the concept of Christmas originated from the announcement of the birth of Jesus Christ the Savior and not Just about the seasonal merry-making many have turned it to in modern day.
According to Rev Kwotuah, the original sense of Christmas is lost when much emphasis is placed on merry-making than the Christ factor, as we see in modern day.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday 24th December 2024, Rev. Kwotuah attributed the overly concentration on the merry-making aspect of Christmas to distortions people have made out of the biblical statements that the angels gave on the day of the birth of Jesus Christ.
“Christmas is not about celebrations so to speak, the shepherds were out there in the Fields, in the dead of the night in the city of Bethlehem and the whole city of Bethlehem was dead silent. And you read in the biblical account that Angels appeared to the shepherds and announced the birth of Christ.”
He added that Christmas in modern times has been reduced to indulgence in pleasure, socialization to the detriment of the essence of Christ’s birth, which was to bring men closer to God.
Touching on the contentions people have had concerning the date of the birth of Christ, the celebrated Reverend Minister posited that, what was important is that Christ came to the world and that cannot be contested. He said the work of Christ to reconcile the relation between God and man should be the focal point for propagation of His goodness.
“If there was a person who was born at a particular time, If the date is not too clear that is not a problem. Dates don’t matter, what matters is that, if that personality existed and played a particular role that changed the trend of things, that is what is important.”
Rev Kwotua, who did not fail to point out the critical role of the church in shaping society, charged the church to take up the responsibility to teach the masses about Christ and raid society of the flawed narratives.
