Perceived Akufo-Addo’s “arrogance and insensitivity” caused our defeat – Navrongo NPP deputy Youth Organiser
Appearing on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday December 16, Asomadewine continued that the party’s defeat could be attributed to some of the actions and decisions of President Akufo-Addo.
The perceived arrogance and insensitivity Ghanaian had about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is one of the primary reasons for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, the deputy youth organiser of the New Patriotic Party in the Navrongo central constituency, Jacob Asomadewine, has said.
According to him, Ghanaians felt that President Akufo-Addo paid a deaf ear to the concerns of Ghanaians on important issues of national interest and that contributed to the embarrassing defeat suffered by the NPP.
Appearing on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday December 16, Asomadewine continued that the party’s defeat could also be attributed to some of the actions and decisions of President Akufo-Addo.
He said, for instance, that President Akufo-Addo’s failure to reshuffle his ministers at a time when the majority Ghanaians wanted him to, triggered the anger of Ghanaians against the New Patriotic Party.
Another instance, he added, was when the President refused to replace his cousin Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister, in the face of widespread calls for his resignation.
“I think that Akufo-Addo should have listened to the people’s concerns. Even if changing Ken Ofori Atta wouldn’t have solved the problem, Ghanaians will see and know that you are listening to them.”
“But, once we didn’t listen, Ghanaians said, no, you are not listening to us…… Then we can also talk about the cathedral that the opposition took advantage of. Yes, we could have taken our time. The times in which we were, we were not supposed to push the National cathedral.” He spoke.
Commenting on their inability to win the parliamentary seat, Asomadewine said the major cause of their defeat was the failure to take into consideration the demands and concerns of the constituents.
“We had a good candidate, but the people were not convinced that we were listening to them,” He explained.
But despite the monumental loss, Asomadewine said the NPP remains committed to the growth of Navrongo, and resolute about its chances in future elections.
“We will bounce back, and when we do, we will come back stronger and more focused on the needs of the Ghanaian people”
