Akufo-Addo’s Incompetence Caused NPP Election Defeat – NDC RCO
Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of the Big Mike Breakfast Show Abdallah said President Akufo-Addo's tenure has been marked by a lack of accountability and brazen disregard for the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.
Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional communication officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the just ended election to President Akufo-Addo’s arrogance and poor governance.
Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of the Big Mike Breakfast Show Abdallah said President Akufo-Addo’s tenure has been marked by a lack of accountability and brazen disregard for the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.
Abdallah said President Akufo Addo’s refusal to dismiss underperforming ministers, including the finance minister, after wide public outcry, is considered a prime example of his arrogance and insensitivity.
“To a large extent, people might even describe it as wickedness. Their own members of parliament, you know, remember at a point, called on him to even dismiss certain people in his government because to them, their actions and inactions were affecting them directly.
But he didn’t listen to anybody. He felt they were his relatives, and they needed to continue to serve. This is my presidency. I decide who serves and who leaves.” The outspoken RCO criticized
Abdallah further stated that the severe criticism of Akufo-Addo’s obnoxious taxes showed that his government had lost touch with the people and their struggles. He continued that it was also one of the reason Ghanaians booted the NPP out.
“The NPP’s loss has been described as a “historic defeat,” with some analysts attributing up to 60% of the blame to Akufo-Addo’s leadership style and policies”.
