Bobobor, a deeply rooted Ewe tradition, serves as a platform for indigenes to showcase their rich cultural heritage through music, dance, and traditional rituals.
A committee for the festival indicated that the focus for observing the festival in the region was to rejuvenate membership, as part of steps to build unity and solidarity among Ewes in the diaspora.
Speaking at the event, Kossi Kuma Gbodji, the chairman of the Ewe Habobor in the region, said “Unity is the very fabric that binds us together as a society. Despite our diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we are interconnected members of the same regional community,”
Gbodji continued that, “When we embrace unity, we create an environment where cooperation flourishes, and the collective strength of a united people becomes a formidable force for positive change,”
Gbodji stressed the importance to put Ewes living in the Upper East Region under one umbrella, saying “let’s work together in building bridges, seeking understanding, and forging a future where the bonds that unite us stronger than the forces that seek to tear us apart,”
In addition, Gbodji also emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for open dialogue, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging collaborative efforts to tackle common issues.
He said, “Regrettably, this spirit of unity diminished over time, giving way to small groups pursuing individual interests. The current Ewe Habobor in the municipality, comprised of Ewe speakers and their spouses residing in the region, emerged to rekindle that spirit. We strive to live in harmony, support one another in times of joy and sorrow, and uphold our shared expectations.”
