FDA says look out for these when purchasing products
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, Ndego said the foremost thing to consider when making purchases at marketplaces are products from traceable sources or manufacturers.
The Food and Drugs authority (FDA) in the Upper East Region has educated consumers on the things to look out for when purchasing products, especially during the festive season.
Abel Ndego, its acting regional head, said all manner of unhealthy products will flood the markets during the festive period, so consumers need to be vigilant when making purchases.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, Ndego said the foremost thing to consider when making purchases particularly of food items at marketplaces, are products from traceable sources or manufacturers.
He noted that products which are mostly sold on trucks in the marketplaces come without information about the manufacturers and it was therefore important for consumers to avoid purchasing them.
“It is very important for people to buy from sources that can be traced. This is because in case of any problem, these manufacturers or sources can be traced and the necessary steps taken to address any challenge encountered”
He continued that, “again, people should desist from buying products with labeling in only foreign languages. Labelling of every product is meant to give a first-hand information about the product. For instance, the ingredients should be written on the product, and this should be done in a language the consumer is conversant with.”
“Do not buy any product which do not have any English labelling. This means that the product is not authorized to be used in Ghana”.
