There were no casualties.
When Mike FM arrived at the scene, residents from nearby houses had gathered helplessly to catch a glimpse of insistent fire tearing through the building as fire fighters from the Navrongo Fire Command made advances to kill it.
A large wreck was left behind even after the fire fighters managed to bring it under control, painting a picture of the intensity of the ravage. The incident has left the tenants broken and displaced.
One of the tenants told Mike FM that, “all of us left home for work and there was only one person in the house. There was also another person sleeping in her room. So, according to the one who was home, she saw smoke coming from one of the meters.
“She said she quickly called the one sleeping in her room to wake up and they then called for help. But by the time the fire service arrived, the fire had spread to the other parts of the building.”
The tenant continued that, “none of us was able to pick anything from our rooms. Not even the one who was there when the fire started. Everything has been burnt including our important documents.”
“I don’t even know where I’m going to spend the night. The dress I’m wearing is the only thing left that I can call my own.” – Another tenant said almost in tears.
