MTN upward review of prices takes effect today
MTN said in a press release that the 15% upward adjustment in prices will affect data bundles, SMS bundles and calls as well as Fiber Broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (4G Router/Turbonet) customers.
The review in prices of the products and services of telecommunication company MTN Ghana, has taken effect today, Tuesday November 28, 2023.
MTN said in a press release that the 15% upward adjustment in prices will affect voice, SMS and data as well as Fiber Broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (4G Router/Turbonet) customers.
It explained that the increment has become necessary due to increased costs of operation.
“We are very mindful of the challenging economic conditions and the increasing cost of inputs for our business. The price review is necessary to enable us to continue to sustain the business and make the needed investments in the network and new innovations to enhance customer experience”. Explained Noel Kojo-Ganson, the Chief Commercial Officer for MTN Ghana.
Last week, customers of the telecommunications giant were notified of the implementation of the price review via SMS messages. The messages said customers will pay GHc43 for a 4.3-gigabyte Turbonet fixed bundle, while GH₵253 and GH₵516 will be paid for a 91-gigabyte bundle and 350-gigabyte bundle, respectively.
Additionally, customers going for a 39-gigabyte bundle under the Broadband Special Bundles will now pay GH₵150, with a 195-gigabyte bundle going for GH₵300.
But the upward jump in prices appear to have begun biting as some customers have taken to social media to criticize the network service provider for what they describe as “exorbitant fees”.
“MTN Ghana why???. It is clear you people know you can rob us any time of day and there’s absolutely nothing anybody can do about it, cos there’s no better competitor out there,” a customer lamented on Facebook.
MTN has, however, said it would “continue to prioritize its customers and focus on delivering reliable, innovative, and improved customer experience”.
It said, “promotions, offers and loyalty schemes including the existing 50% bonus for 4G customers on myMTN App and Momo App still remain unchanged.”
