President Mahama’s inauguration most colorful since 4th Republic- Jonathan Abdallah
He said even though Ghana has undergone many transitions, the January 7, 2025, inaugural ceremony was one of a kind that caught the attention of the world.
The Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu has praised the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama, describing it as the most colorful swearing-in in the country’s history.
He said even though Ghana has undergone many transitions, the January 7, 2025, inaugural ceremony was one of a kind that caught the attention of the world.
“I have witnessed the inauguration of President Rawlings, I have witnessed that of his other predecessors up to the time of President Kuffour, but everybody who watched the inauguration of President Mahama will testify to the fact that it was actually a historic one”
Speaking with David Adapuna on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday 10th January 2025, the NDC mouthpiece particularly pointed out the attendance of many high-profile dignitaries from across the world, as one of the high points of the inauguration.
An excited Salifu added that the presence of the dignitaries was an indication of their support for President Mahama’s government. He noted that it was a good start for the “resetting agenda” of the government.
Touching on President Mahama’s few days in office, Salifu commended him getting to work quickly without wasting time. He said President Mahama’s meeting with developmental partners upon resumption of power as a positive step towards working to restore the country to its right footing.
President Mahama on Wednesday January 8, 2025, revoked the appointments of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and directed coordinating directors of the Assemblies to assume responsibilities until substantive appointments are made.
The revocation also included appointed Assembly Members.
Commenting on the revocation, Jonathan said the action of President Mahama was to prevent the MMDCEs from engaging in transactions that will not inure to the benefit of the nation.
“They were still there awarding contracts to party cronies in a very charade manner. They were doing it so quickly. You know how contracts processes are done, quickly trying to sole-source projects and we can’t allow that to happen.” He defended.
