Privatisation of ECG would increase efficiency – Mercy Abada
According to Abada, privatisation of ECG will improve efficiency and increase productivity to meet the country’s power needs.
Mercy Abada, a member of the Navrongo central communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has backed President John Dramani Mahama’s intention to privatize the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to Abada, privatisation of ECG will improve efficiency and increase productivity to meet the country’s power needs.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday January 15, 2025, Abada added that privatisation of ECG would also help beat down the energy sector dept burden on the government.
“Now, one thing I have noticed from President Mahama is that he is a real stateman. Anything that would not inure to the benefit of Ghanaians, he won’t do it. His call for privatisation of ECG is because he believes it would lead to an increase in production and efficiency, ” She said.
Abada, who says she has enormous hope in the leadership of President Mahama, also noted that privatisation of ECG would help eliminate the numerous challenges which have stifled the growth of the company, including the lack of access to electric meters, and enable swift delivery of services to clients.
“How many of us do not have complaints that you apply for a meter at ECG, and it would take you a whole year before you get it, and when it comes, it come even faulty?” She questioned.
President John Dramani Mahama during his campaign last year, promised to deal with the problems in the energy sector to ensure uninterrupted power supply. As he has taken over reins of power, Ghanaians are looking forward to an end to the power crisis which have affected businesses.
