St John Bosco’s College of Education SRC to protest removal of school Principal
In their statement, the student council has disagreed with the directive and said it will not be in the best interest to axe the Principal. The SRC said it will embark on a protest to press home their concerns and for authorities to overturn the decision.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the St John Boso’s College of Education has said it will go on a peaceful demonstration to kick against a decision by the school’s governing council to relieve its Principal Professor Joseph Amikuzuno, of his position.
The SRC has given Monday 30th December, 2024, as the day of the protest.
A letter dated 3rd October, 2024 and signed by Most Rev. Alfred Agyenta, Chairman of the governing council, has directed Professor Amikuzuno, who has been Principal of the institution since 2020, to hand on December 31st, 2024.
But in their statement, the student council has disagreed with the directive and said it will not be in the best interest to axe the Principal. The SRC said it will embark on a protest to press home their concerns and for authorities to overturn the decision.
The SRC said the tenure of Professor Amikuzuno has been characterized by innovative policies, impressive developments, and a deep sense for the wellbeing and success of students and it was, therefore, in the good interest of the school for his tenure to be renewed.
More disagreements
The SRC is not the only body to kick against the decision by the governing council chairman. On October 10, 2024, eight members of the governing council petitioned the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to disassociate themselves from the decision to not renew the tenure of Professor Amikuzuno.
The eight governing council members, in that petition, accused their chairman Most Rev Alfred Agyenta, of taking a unilateral decision backed by his personal reasons. They said the chairman of the council failed to call a meeting to discuss the issues relative to the tenure and arrive at a collective decision.
The members, therefore, furthered that the decision of the Chairman lacked the collective wisdom of the council in matters of determining the tenure of a principal or in considering the renewal of his tenure.
