Teamwork is my leadership style – Professor Joseph Amikuzuno
He said a leader who respects and accepts the contributions of team members is bound to be successful in achieving targeted goals.
The principal of the St. John Bosco’s College of Education, Professor Joseph Amikuzuno has said he is a leader who believes in teamwork where the ideas of everyone are welcome.
He said a leader who respects and accepts the contributions of team members is bound to be successful in achieving targeted goals.
Speaking when he took a seat on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday 27th December 2024, Prof Amikuzuno said participatory leadership has been his approach all the years that he has been in leadership positions, adding that it has helped him achieve team goals.
While he urged the adoption of such leadership style, Prof Amikuzuno said participatory leadership has also helped him to learn the ability to work with different groups of people.
Professor Amikuzuno recounted his days at the University for Development Studies (UDS), and said with that approach of leadership, his team at the time made significant progress as far as achieving collective goals were concerned.
Tenure at Bosco
Professor Amikuzuno has been the Principal of the St. John Bosco’s College of Education since 2020 when he took office. Through his sterling leadership, the college has seen great transformation in all facets. A land dispute the school was faced with for decades was watered down through his efforts.
Touching on his success as Principal, Professor Amikuzuno said he could not have achieved that much without the unflinching support of school’s Alumni, management, staff and the student body.
He was particularly thankful to the Alumni association for providing the school with resources every now and then to enhance development for effective academic and extra curricula activities.
“The past students have been active participants in the development of the college” _ Professor Amikuzuno stressed.
Advice to youth
Climbing the ladder to become an academic colossus has not been all rosy for Professor Amikuzuno. He said it took the grace of God, persistence and a lot of hard work to be where he currently is. Professor Amikuzuno did not hesitate to also credit people he met along his journey for his success in life.
Professor Amikuzuno has, therefore, urged young people to be inspired and aim for greater heights. He said young people must be ready to sacrifice their time, effort, be disciplined and draw closer to God to achieve success.
