Two persons killed in fresh attack in Bawku

Residents reported hearing several rounds of gunfire before the gun men, dressed in black shirts, carried out the deadly attack.

Two persons have died after a commercial bus came under the attack of faceless gunmen in Bawku in the early hours of Monday morning, MP for the area Mahama Ayariga has confirmed in a statement.

Scores of passengers have also sustained injuries in the attack.

The attack took place in front of the Veterinary Services office at Highways, a suburb of the Bawku municipality. Residents reported hearing several rounds of gunfire before the gun men, dressed in black shirts, carried out the deadly attack.

The timely intervention of peacekeeping troops in the town however helped to drive the armed men away. But the armed men returned, after the security operatives left the scene of the attack, to set fire to the grounded bus.

“The security personnel after conveying the dead and injured away, the unknown gunmen returned and set the bus ablaze” recounted a resident.

The two persons who died have been identified as Razak Abdul Rahman, 43, the driver of the bus, and Haruna Iddrisu, 31, a driver’s mate. Residents said the driver was shot, resulting in the car crashing against a tree.

The dead have since been deposited at the Bawku hospital morgue for preservation.
